Become a
station volunteer

Support your local community by becoming a volunteer station adopter

Become part of a dynamic station adoption program that transforms local railway stations into vibrant community hubs. Station adoption projects typically include planting gardens, maintaining flower beds, and creating art displays.  Through the collective efforts of volunteers, stations have been transformed into green, vibrant spaces that reflect the unique character and spirit of the local communities they serve.

Station adoption brings far more than just aesthetic improvements;  groups  help build stronger community connections and create eco systems with features such as ‘Bee Friendly’ planting, composting, water harvesting and bug hotels.   The Secret Garden at Avonmouth station and the Open Return Garden at Weston-super-Mare station have an emphasis on growing food to share with the local community.

Station volunteering is open to all, and many of those who take part enjoy the wellbeing benefits of spending time out of doors and being in regular contact with fellow station adopters.  Activity can be designed and adapted to suit all ages and situations.

We welcome your ideas and creativity and will connect you with all the GWR local station team and with other contacts in the rail industry who ensure your volunteering is carried out safely and with all the necessary permissions.
