More than 50 poster sites at 12 Bristol Suburban stations have been replaced with special solar illuminated cases, creating a safer and more welcoming environment for customers. Funding for the scheme has come from a community grant from Great Western Railway.
Community groups have access to designated community poster cases to promote local independent businesses and events taking place in the neighbourhood.
Heather Cullimore, Manager of the Severnside Community Rail Partnership said: “The existing poster cases have been in situ for more than ten years and have significantly deteriorated because of weather damage and general wear and tear. Some even have broken locking mechanisms.
“They help to make the display of timetables, onward travel information and local community notices so much more accessible and inviting.”
GWR Community Rail Development Manager Ann Jenner said: “We have a specific pot of money designed to support the Community Rail Partnerships on our network who in turn work with their local communities. “This is a really worthwhile project which will help to enhance the look of stations across the Bristol area.”
