Volunteers from Network Rail, Mitie and the Samaritans came together to freshen up the station fencing at Severn Beach. The 100m long fence is fully exposed to the coastal elements and was in much need of a lick of paint. Having reschduled for the third time due to wet weather, rain coats turned to sun hats as the group were fortunate to have a dry spell for the day. The paint and equipment were generously funded by South Gloucestershire Council and it all took place just in time for the upcoming Severnside Festival on Saturday July 8th .
Faye Keane of Severnside Commnity Rail Partnership said “It has been incredibly helpful to have both the volunteers offer their time, and for the support from South Gloucestershire Council providing the materials in order for the painting to take place. The length of the fence meant it would require a large team to tackle it and luckily we got a group of 15 people from Network Rail, Mitie and The Samaritians along. The station is a much loved hub, connecting the suburban communities to Severn Beach, so when the local community asked for help we were able to get quite a lot of interest! And even better, it is ready for the crowds arriving in to Severn Beach by train for the festival too!”
